■ Q: AWEMP fails to load and says: "DOS4GW stub not found." Help! I'm
scared! What is this??
A: Relax.. due to the fact that AWEMP is now a protected mode
player, AWEMP needs a seperate program - the so called stub - in
order to run. The AWEMP/32 v1.50 package comes with the DOS4GW
stub, if you have forgotten to copy the file DOS4GW.EXE to the
path where the AWEMP executable resides, AWEMP fails to load
and gives you the message mentioned above. Solution: copy any
version of DOS4GW.EXE to the AWEMP directory.
■ Q: AWEMP hangs the system when initializing the EMU8000 subsystem,
other players work perfectly, any idea?
A: Simple, there was a stupid bug in the initialization routines of
previous AWEMP releases which caused the system to hang when the
EMU8000 is installed on a different baseport than 0x620.
From AWEMP/32 v1.50 this bug is fixed. If you still happen to
have this bug, you should override autodetection by specifying
the baseport (in init section) in the preferences file.
■ Q: Why can't I use IRQ's > 7?
A: For some strange reason DOS4GW does not pass up IRQ's > 7
correctly from real mode to protected mode. Module playing
just stops after 10 rows or so. There is no solution but to
use an IRQ number < 8.
■ Q: Why can't I use DMA channels > 3?
A: Don't know, maybe because I didn't implement support for
16bit DMA channels :)
■ Q: When I adjust the bpm rate by hand, AWEMP sometimes crashes
with the following error: 'transfer stack overflow at
interrupt 0xh'. This only happens when using DMA polling mode.
A: I know that yes :( Anyone outthere who knows the exact meaning
of this error reported by DOS4GW?? At the moment I have no
idea how to fix this bug . . .
